Fun weekend to Murano and Bologna

March 14th

We had a 4 day weekend over St Patrick's Day.  Corey had just arrived home from Germany, so we decided to stay in Italy and just take a few day trips. On Friday the 14th,  we went to Murano, which is one of the islands off of Venice. We had planned to go to Burano too, another island, but we left kind of late in the day, so we just went to Murano. Murano is famous for it's glass and you can sometimes watch glass blowing. We didn't get to see glass blowing, but we don't live too far from Venice so we figured we would go again.  Once in Venice, we had to buy ferry tickets, then hopped on a ferry and it was about a 45 minute ride to Murano. It was a beautiful sunny day, so we just walked around, had some food, and bought a few Venetian masks. Here are some pictures and a video :)

On Saturday the 15th, we went to Bologna. I had read on the Vicenza Facebook travel page that the bolognese sauce is the bomb there- obviously it originates in Bologna, so it has to be good! Plus it wasn't a very far drive- about an hour and half. We didn't have much of a plan except to eat some pasta with bolognese sauce! We arrived around lunch time, so first up-lunch! Now, we were dressed how we normally do , Corey in a t-shirt and jeans, me in a t-shirt and capris. But Corey wanted to eat at this restaurant (I Carracci) that was #1 in Bologna according to Tripadvisor. The restaurant was attached to a museum and even looked fancy from the outside. We stumbled inside, hoping they spoke a little English, so we could ask if there was a dress code. Luckily there was not a dress code, even though most people inside were in business casual wear. Thats ok though- they did not discriminate. We were treated like royalty the minute we walked in. I'm not sure if they're always on top of things waiting on people hand and foot, or if it was just because it wasn't a very busy time. Either way, we enjoyed every minute. They first brought out a sample of some meat- striking similarity to bologna- and was prepared in a fancy fashion. It tasted sooooo good. I could have eaten a pound of it, seriously.  We both ordered the tagliatelle with bolognese sauce, and then Corey ordered some meat- I can't remember which. Everything tasted amazing!  Oh lets not forget about the desert. We had ordered 3 different kinds of chocolate with some ice cream. And because we were king and queen in there, they brought out more delectable pastries for us (I think free of charge- I didn't see the receipt lol)

Next, we wandered around the city. And saw some pretty cool things, I must say. Somehow, in the majority of cities we visit, we find live music. Now it ranges from a regular band with a piano, trumpet, sax, drums, to a marching band. And I love it all. I don't know why it always amazes me to see live music- we see it in Seattle all the time. Maybe because we're in Europe and everything is better here :) So here in Bologna, we visited a cathedral (I know, another thing we do in every city), saw some live music, and climbed a really, really tall tower....I'm talking 500 stairs tall (trust me, Corey counted them :))

Here is the marching band!! I got some video of them too :)

And the other band :) Also on the video!
