Asiago.

Sunday February 16.

We headed up to Asiago, which isn't too far from our house. Its about an hour drive up in the mountains. The reason I wanted to visit Asiago was because they were having an international fireworks/music competition and show. The firework show was called "ribbon of light" and Sunday night was Italy's show. Friday and Saturday night were Spain's and Russia's shows, respectively.  We had also planned to meet some friends up there and go sledding in the afternoon before the show started. Well we couldn't find our friends (they were on a completely different mountain) nor could we find any sleds to rent, but honestly we didn't try that hard (to find sleds). So we just skipped that whole plan and decided to eat instead :) I don't know why I always forget that its hard to find restaurants open in the afternoon in this country, especially on a Sunday. It makes going out and exploring very difficult! But we found like one place open so at least it was easy decision making. We both ordered this quesadilla type sandwich and it was the bomb!  Mine had prosciutto, cheese and peppers, which I didn't know that pepperoni translates to peppers here. So Corey and I ended up switching since I'm not a fan of peppers. But the tortilla was soooo good and I have yet to find anything similar to it anywhere else in Italy. Then we both had gelato, of course, which was delicious. You can definitely tell which places have good gelato. For example, a gelateria near us has really good gelato and the gelato I had in the touristy part of Venice was also tasty. The gelato I had in Murano was not good, and Murano is an island off of Venice. They obviously charge a lot for gelato in touristy areas too. The gelato in Florence cost 10 euros!! That is absurd!

So after we ate lunch we decided to figure out where this light show was going to take place. We originally thought it was near where we ate lunch, but after some research and questioning the locals, we figured out it was a bit of a drive. So we drove to the Asiago airport where it was going to be held, parked a little ways away and walked the rest. We finally found the right spot! There were tons of people there and a few little drink stands. One little hut was serving the usual spritz and a few other drinks and the other hut was serving this hot wine cider that all the Italians love. It smelled disgusting but Corey ordered some, and it actually tasted quite good. 1730 rolled around, when the show was supposed to start, but thankfully it didn't because it still light out. So we waited and waited and by about 1820 the show began! Yay! I love fireworks and this show did not disappoint. It lasted about 18 mins, which sounds like a long time, but by the last song, I didn't want it to end! It went by so fast. So here are some pictures from our day and I included a video, as usual :)

For some reason I can't get the video to upload, but here is the link to it on YouTube :)
